• SENIOR COPY EDITOR, NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP New York, NY Feb 2002 – May 2004
       Edited Nature Neuroscience and Nature Medicine manuscripts (articles, letters, reviews, news
       pieces, book reviews; both text and figures) for clarity, readability, internal consistency,
       grammar, punctuation and conformity to Nature style. Routinely communicated with authors
       regarding suggested changes, and worked extensively with authors whose native language is
       not English.

• RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, AGY THERAPEUTICS
San Francisco, CA Oct 1999 – May 2000
      In the molecular biology group of this biotech company, we used neuronal cell cultures to
      analyze gene expression in animal models of diseases such as stroke, epilepsy and
      schizophrenia.

• RESEARCH ASSISTANT, PRINCETON UNIVERSITY Princeton, NJ March 1998 – Oct 1998
      Carried out genotypic and behavioral analysis of mice in Dr. J. Tsien’s molecular neuroscience
      lab, as part of a study concerning overexpression of a memory-related gene in the mouse brain.
      The study was published in Nature (September 2, 1999).

• FREELANCE BIOMEDICAL JOURNALIST, MEDIQUEST San Francisco, CA Sept 1999 – Nov 1999
     Wrote articles based on antibiotic research findings presented at a press conference.

• EDITORIAL INTERN, THE JOURNAL OF NIH RESEARCH Washington, DC June 1997 – Oct 1997
     Interviewed scientists for the “Landmarks” section, which featured historically significant studies.
     Also researched story ideas, proofread copy, kept track of relations with contributors, and
     assisted with print and online layout.

EDUCATION


• UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON & INSTITUTE FOR COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE
     M.Sc. Cognitive Neuropsychology Class of 2001 Honors Distinction
     Master’s thesis research: psychophysical study concerning human awareness of action/
     movement and the perception of time (article published in Nature Neuroscience
     in 2002; note previous surname was Kalogeras). Attended several conferences on cognitive
     neuroscience topics, and completed a two-day course in fMRI data analysis.    

• PRINCETON UNIVERSITY Princeton, NJ A.B. Biology Class of 1999
     Undergraduate thesis: “Rethinking the Evolutionary Story of Human Brain Expansion: a View
     from Developmental and Molecular Neuroscience”. Relevant coursework: premedical curriculum,
     lab courses in cell and molecular biology, neuroscience, chemistry and physics, and a
     three-month intensive science writing seminar.

     Connectionist Neural Network Modeling of Cognitive Processes.
